Over 156,000 Vulnerable Cases Resolved via Local Social Support Services

Petra jaya: A total of 156,033 cases involving vulnerable groups have been assisted and successfully resolved through the services of the Local Social Support Centre (PSSS) from October 2021 until December last year, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said. She emphasized the critical need for these services, especially in providing mental health support, counselling, and early intervention without stigma.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nancy highlighted the importance of promoting PSSS as an information platform for those experiencing distress. She noted the prevalent issue of mental pressure and expressed concern about its impact on individuals. Nancy shared these insights during the 'Ihya Ramadan 2026/1447H' programme in Petra Jaya.

Nancy also stressed the role of community awareness and sensitivity in addressing mental distress and emotional pressure within communities. She pointed out the shared responsibility of residents in interconnected neighborhoods to notice warning signs and support one another by offering advice or informing the relevant authorities.

Her comments followed an incident where five family members were found dead in Taman Cerating Damai in Kuantan. Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman reported that a 32-year-old man allegedly injured his wife, mother, and two children before harming himself, resulting in fatalities.

Nancy further revealed that from January until today, at least seven cases involving the deaths of mothers, wives, and children have been recorded nationwide. She suggested that in such family-related cases, the husband might be under pressure due to unemployment, which could impact the family. This year, three PSSS outreach programmes have been conducted in Kuching.
