Over 5,000 RMR Homes To Be Built This Year – Aiman Athirah

Kuala lumpur: A total of 5,450 Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) houses will be constructed across the nation this year, with an allocation of RM504 million, according to Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu. She announced that Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) has completed 2,766 houses, while another 1,310 units are underway as of August 31.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, an additional 1,374 houses are in the process of being handed over to contractors. The subsidy provided is RM20,000, while the remaining RM55,000 is to be financed by the applicants through interest-free loans with SPNB, Aiman Athirah explained during a ceremony to hand over the keys to the RMR homes.

Kelantan recorded the highest number of RMR home applications, with over 11,000 units completed, followed closely by Terengganu with over 10,200 units. The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) received 183,522 applications for the RMR programme between 2002 and August 2025. Out of these, 88,197 were complete applications, and 75,563 were approved after fulfilling the necessary conditions.

There are still approximately 65,000 applications undergoing the checking and registration process before approval. The application process involves several stages, including document verification and eligibility evaluation. Main conditions include being in the low-income group, earning RM5,000 or below, not owning a house, living in dilapidated houses, and having land to build a home.

Priority is given to applicants with families who do not own a house. For the 65,000 applications still in process, a shortlist is being created. The recent National Affordable Housing Council Meeting emphasized the commitment to finalize the remaining applications with the cooperation of related agencies.
