Penang govt provides RM800,000 to build seafood sales centre in Jawi

NIBONG TEBAL, Aug 2 (Bernama) — The Penang State Government has allocated RM800,000 for the construction project of a seafood sales centre and stalls at Changkat Fishermen’s Jetty, in Jawi here in an effort to make the area a popular aqua tourism spot in the state.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said several new facilities there will play an important role in providing a better life for fishermen and their families in the future.

“Through an application made by state Agrotechnology and Food Safety, Rural Development and Health Committee chairman Dr Norlela Ariffin, the state government has approved a cost of RM800,000 for the project at Changkat Fishermen’s Jetty.

“The project involves the construction of a fish sales centre, food stalls, toilets, container-type homestays, stores and a slipway. It is currently in the process of appointing a surveyor and I hope that the Penang Public Works Department as the implementing agency can ensure the progress of the project is on track as scheduled,” he said after the ground breaking ceremony for the construction project of a Seafood Sales Centre and Stall at Changkat Fishermen’s Jetty, here today.

Chow said the jetty has attracted a lot of attention among local and international tourists, especially anglers because there are various species of marine life in the waters.

He said that as a result, it is necessary for the state government to provide new facilities not only to fishermen and local residents but also to tourists who visit there.
