Penang: Penang police issued 582 summonses and seized 26 motorcycles for various offences during the 2026 New Year’s Eve Integrated Operation, conducted from 8:30 pm on Dec 31 until early this morning.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail stated that the “Op Samseng Jalanan” and “Op Mabuk” operations were carried out statewide. The operation involved 165 police officers and personnel, with strategic cooperation from the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), and the Department of Environment (DOE).
The highest number of offences involved motorcycles, including lack of registration numbers, failure to display “P” (Probationary) stickers, structural modifications, and use of exhausts not following legal specifications.
During the operation, one arrest was made under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol, after screening and breathalyser tests showed readings exceeding the permitted limit.
Additionally, 677 individuals and 626 vehicles were inspected statewide. The JPJ issued 192 summons notices, while the AADK recorded one positive case out of 41 drug screenings conducted, he said in a statement tonight.
He further informed that the DOE conducted 35 sound level tests, issuing 20 re-test notices and 20 compounds to vehicles violating noise regulations.
Azizee said the primary focus of the operation was to ensure road safety and smooth traffic flow, as well as to prevent road hooliganism and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the New Year celebrations, with an estimated 500,000 vehicles entering the island area.
