PERAK SEES DROP IN NUMBER OF FLOOD EVACUEES

The number of flash flood victims in Perak has continued to decrease as of 8 pm tonight, with only one temporary relief centre (PPS) still open at Sekolah Rendah Changkat Lobak in the Kerian district.

State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, in a statement, said the PPS was opened at 5 pm today to house 26 people from four affected families from Kampung Matang Tengah.

Three other PPS, located at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Jernih, Selama; Balai Raya Kampung Klah, Sungkai and Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Simpang Halt, Taiping, were closed today and all flood evacuees were allowed to return home.

The Perak Irrigation and Drainage Department reported that the water level at Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong has reached the warning level with a reading of 3.37 metres.

The water level at Sungai Slim in Slim River recorded a reading of 25.07 metres and is currently at the alert level.

Meanwhile, the Public Works Department said that only one lane is opened for all vehicles on FT077 Jalan Pengkalan Hulu-Sempadan Thailand Section 5 in Hulu Perak due to a landslide and the implementation of a traffic management plan in the area.

Jalan A 156 Jalan Karai-Jawang Trosor in Kuala Kangsar remains closed to traffic at this time due to a landslide in the area.
