Kuala lumpur: Members of the public will be able to apply for a physical printout of a Malaysian Driving License (LMM) without the need to provide proof of overseas travel starting tomorrow. The Ministry of Transport (MOT) announced the new policy in a statement, highlighting that it was introduced in response to feedback from Malaysians who require a physical driving license to drive abroad.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the existing regulations required drivers to present proof of leaving the country, such as a flight ticket, to apply for a physical LMM card. However, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has now been instructed to eliminate this requirement in an effort to reduce bureaucratic procedures.
Physical prints of the LMM can be obtained at all JPJ counters and Urban Transformation Centres (UTC) nationwide. A printing fee of RM20 will be charged for Malaysian citizens, while non-citizens will have to pay RM100. The MOT also noted that senior citizens aged 60 and above, Class A and A1 license holders, and Disabled Persons card holders registered with the Department of Social Welfare will be eligible to receive physical LMM prints for free.
Drivers opting for the LLM digital card can continue to access a free digital driving card, which can be renewed through the MyJPJ application without visiting any office. According to MOT, since the introduction of the digital LMM policy in February 2023, the MyJPJ Application has garnered 13 million users, showing a strong public endorsement of the initiative.
"This trend is very encouraging and indicates that users have begun to adapt to the digital concept as a more convenient option, where LMM can be renewed online via the MyJPJ application and issued without having to go to the JPJ office," the statement added.
