Kuala lumpur: The PKR Women’s wing has submitted a list of names, including new faces, to the party’s top leadership to be selected as candidates to contest in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN). PKR Women’s Chief Fadhlina Sidek said the list of women candidates put forward this time have extensive experience, solid background, and close ties with the local community.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadhlina emphasized that the candidates have received a mandate from the party and support from party members, deeming them suitable for the upcoming state election. She made these remarks to reporters today, following the Official Opening Ceremony of the Byram Estate Residents Resettlement Project, which was inaugurated by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Fadhlina, who also serves as the Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Nibong Tebal, stated that PKR Women is targeting 30 percent of the selected candidates for the PRN to be women. She expressed confidence in the candidates’ hard work, community contributions, and deservedness of their nominations.
She further mentioned that the PKR Women’s machinery is in the final phase of preparation for the nomination of candidates, ensuring that the party’s nominees are well-prepared to win. The machinery is set to be mobilized throughout the identified seats to provide full support for the candidates.
On Oct 6, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the dissolution of the Sabah State Assembly to pave the way for the 17th Sabah State Election, which involves 79 seats, 73 of which will be contested. The Election Commission is set to hold a Special Meeting on Oct 16 to discuss key dates and other matters related to the election.
