PM Anwar to Address Sabah’s 40 Percent Revenue Entitlement Issue in Parliament

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to address the significant issue concerning Sabah’s 40 percent revenue entitlement during the Minister’s Question Time in Parliament tomorrow, as announced by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. The matter is of critical importance as it pertains to the rights of Sabah’s citizens, with the government striving to ensure fairness and clarity in its resolution.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi emphasized the gravity of the situation, highlighting that it involves substantial public funds and the need for a sustainable decision. The Prime Minister is scheduled to respond to the first question in Parliament at 10 a.m., focusing on this pressing issue. Fahmi made these remarks while attending the Deepavali Light Fiesta in the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency.

The government recently held a special Cabinet meeting where it was decided not to appeal the Kota Kinabalu High Court’s ruling concerning Sabah’s special grant, which is based on the 40 percent revenue entitlement as stipulated in the Federal Constitution. This decision was informed by the advice from the Attorney-General’s Chambers, emphasizing the necessity to respect Sabah’s entitlement and initiate negotiations for its execution with the state government.

However, the government plans to appeal certain elements of the judgment related to alleged abuse of power and constitutional breaches by previous federal administrations since 1974. Fahmi noted that this appeal is crucial due to interpretations in the judgment that claim constitutional violations by Federal Governments from 1974 to 2021, which must be addressed to uphold the integrity of the nation’s leadership.

The Kota Kinabalu High Court previously ruled on October 17 that the Federal Government had unlawfully exceeded its constitutional powers by not fulfilling Sabah’s right to 40 percent of federal revenue from 1974 to 2021.
