Cyberjaya: The Ministry of Health’s (MOH) new Rakan KKM initiative, offering ‘premium economy’ healthcare services, is expected to begin at Cyberjaya Hospital this December. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad announced that the programme will enable ministry specialists to perform specific medical procedures while improving their earnings, as part of efforts to retain specialists in the public sector.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad emphasized that this initiative is among the measures to ensure specialists are not compelled to leave MOH or take up locum work in the private sector. Patients opting for Rakan KKM services will receive standard MOH clinical care with added features such as personalised attention, doctor selection, enhanced privacy, and greater comfort. The services will cover specialist outpatient consultations, elective day procedures, surgeries, and inpatient admissions.
Dr Dzulkefly highlighted MOH’s commitment to improving the welfare of public healthcare workers, including through a 40 percent increase in the on-call allowance (ETAP) announced under Budget 2026. He also mentioned that MOH is enhancing the critical allowance to help increase specialists’ income, thereby reducing reliance on private locum work and preventing higher treatment costs for patients. Dr Dzulkefly affirmed his dedication to championing the welfare of specialists and has requested appropriate compensation for long-serving consultants.
