Sarawak: The Sarawak state government has finalized the acquisition of MASwings Sdn Bhd through AirBorneo Holdings Sdn Bhd, effective today, Jan 1, 2026. AirBorneo, a wholly owned entity of the Sarawak state government, will now assume full legal and operational responsibility for MASwings.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the sale and purchase agreement for the acquisition was signed between Malaysia Aviation Group and the Sarawak state government on Feb 12, 2025. During the initial transition phase, the MASwings branding will continue to be used as AirBorneo progressively introduces its new brand identity.

AirBorneo has expressed its appreciation for the cooperation and understanding of passengers, partners, and stakeholders during this transition period. The acquisition aligns with the state government's strategic objectives of enhancing regional air connectivity and ensuring affordable fares for the people of Sarawak.

The acquisition is seen as a crucial step in supporting Sarawak's broader social and economic development goals and paves the way for the airline's next phase of growth under the AirBorneo brand.
