Kuching: A total of 617 officers and personnel of the Sarawak Department of Social Welfare (JKM) are ready to be deployed for disaster management operations, including flood response. Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri confirmed the preparedness of the department, highlighting the inclusion of 13 psychology officers who are on standby to assist flood victims.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the minister emphasized the department's readiness in terms of personnel and psychological support. The Psychological Support Team (PST) comprises 270 members, and there are an additional 230 JKM volunteers prepared to provide aid. The minister expressed the importance of ensuring that flood victims, especially children, remain comfortable while staying at relief centres.
Currently, 1,178 individuals from 300 families are being accommodated at 10 relief centres located in Kuching, Kota Samarahan, and Lawas. The department's efforts aim to ensure the well-being and safety of all affected individuals during the flood crisis.
