KUCHING: Sarawak is set to organize the Sarawak Media Games in conjunction with the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2025 celebration at the state level, as announced by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS)), Datuk Abdullah Saidol.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this event will be one of the main programs organized by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) in 2025. Although Sarawak will not be the host of HAWANA next year, the state aims to make this annual celebration a shared event with media professionals. Additionally, UKAS is tasked with organizing the Sarawak Media Conference (SMEC) 2025, which is planned to be a more significant event than in previous years.

Sarawak recently hosted the HAWANA 2024 celebration, which carried the theme “Ethics as the Foundation of Sustainable Journalism”. The event featured various programs, including the HAWANA 2024 Campus Tour, the HAWANA 2024 Exhibition, and ‘Juh
Raon’.

Deputy Minister Abdullah emphasized the importance of UKAS in maintaining effective two-way communication between the public and leaders on pertinent issues and developments in Sarawak. He highlighted the necessity for UKAS to relay public concerns to leaders to ensure that state government policies and strategies are aligned with community needs.
