BATU KAWAN: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pulau Aman today received a new boat to facilitate easier access for pupils and teachers commuting to school. Penang education director Wan Sajiri Wan Hassan announced the acquisition during a handover ceremony, highlighting the importance of the new RM218,097 boat and a boat trailer worth RM30,000, which were purchased to replace the old, damaged one.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, SK Pulau Aman is uniquely dependent on water transport for the daily movement of its pupils and teachers. Wan Sajiri expressed his gratitude to the Education Ministry’s procurement division for their support. During the ceremony, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek presented a replica of the boat key to the headmistress of SK Pulau Aman, Rohayu Ibrahim, and also made donations to two students.
Wan Sajiri revealed that the school is attended by 26 students and staffed by eight teachers, with six students and seven teachers traveling daily by boat from outside the Pulau Aman area. Minister Fadh
lina emphasized that addressing education access and logistics is a priority for her ministry, emphasizing that the new boat demonstrates a commitment to the safety of the commuting teachers and pupils.
Fadhlina further stated that her ministry plans to expand similar initiatives to other island schools. She also disclosed plans to potentially transform SK Pulau Aman into a digital school, aiming to cultivate digitally literate pupils. The goal is to enhance facilities, engage teachers and students, and empower them digitally to meet the evolving educational landscape in a responsible and ethical way.
