Sri Lankan FitsAir to Expand Malaysia Flights to Four Weekly Services by End of March

Kuala lumpur: Sri Lanka's low-cost carrier and the first privately-owned international airline, FitsAir, plans to increase its weekly flight frequency to Malaysia from three to four by the end of March this year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fits Aviation (Pte) Ltd Chief Commercial Officer Mohamed Najath Suruba revealed that the airline aims to scale up to daily flights by the end of October, with plans to operate double-daily services by next year. This move underscores the airline's long-term commitment to the Malaysian market.

Mohamed Najath Suruba stated that FitsAir currently operates flights to four destinations: Dubai, Mal©, Dhaka, and Kuala Lumpur. The airline plans to expand this to eight destinations during the summer, adding Bangkok, Lahore, Ahmedabad, and Delhi to its list. FitsAir entered the Malaysian market in April 2025 and is targeting a load factor of 85 percent to 90 percent, having already increased it from 60 percent to 80 percent within nine months of commencing operations in Malaysia.

Mohamed expressed optimism about achieving a load factor above 85 percent once flights to Lahore commence, highlighting a significant gap in air connectivity between Pakistan and Malaysia. He emphasized that via Colombo, passengers from Malaysia could be connected to Pakistan, with new services from Lahore starting at the end of March and sales opening in the first week of February.

FitsAir is also planning to connect passengers from Malaysia to Jeddah and is currently developing this project. Mohamed noted that they are six to nine months away from launching this service, which would provide opportunities for Malaysian passengers and neighboring Muslim countries, such as Indonesia, to travel to Jeddah via Colombo, especially for hajj or umrah pilgrims.

The airline currently operates three A320 aircraft powered by IAE V2500 engines, with seating capacities ranging from 164 to 180. In Malaysia, NZ World Tours and Travels Sdn Bhd serves as the general sales agent for FitsAir through its website mynztrip.com.

mynztrip.com strategic alliance manager Mohamad Naszari Abu stated that the collaboration with FitsAir aims to expand its reach to more overseas destinations while promoting the mynztrip.com platform. The target markets for Visit Malaysia 2026 include Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with plans for inbound travel to Malaysia highlighting destinations beyond Kuala Lumpur, such as Langkawi and Borneo.

mynztrip.com's sales and marketing manager in Malaysia, Arif Aizuddin, described mynztrip.com as an all-in-one travel solution platform offering convenience for agents and clients alike. He expressed expectations for wider expansion, aided by their 11 worldwide offices and collaboration with FitsAir, which is anticipated to facilitate easier expansion to Jeddah and subsequent destinations.
