Statistics Carnival achieves target of public awareness – Mohd Uzir

TANJUNG MALIM, Oct 22 (Bernama) — The three-day 2022 Statistics Carnival that ends today has achieved its target of increasing public awareness, said Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin.

He said about 5,000 local residents received benefits and awareness in addition to improving knowledge related to statistics that can be applied in their daily lives.

“In line with the theme we are discussing which is Statistics the Heart of Life, we want people to know that uncertainty can be reduced when studying statistics.

“Life has trends that can be expected, even in the business sector such as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that should be implemented to avoid the concept of trial and error,” he said.

He told this to reporters after officiating at the closing ceremony of the 2022 National Statistics Day celebration and One Decade of the Malaysia Statistical Training Institute (ILSM) celebration here today.

The event was also attended by Deputy Chief Statistician (Economy) Datin Seri Rozita Talha and Deputy Chief Statistician (Technical Development and Social) Nazaria Baharudin.

Mohd Uzir added that the importance of statistics in educating the community can also be seen in daily life including during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure they are in a safe environment.

“For example, they want to know the number of infections and deaths in an area so that they can respond to ensure safety and so on,” he said.

Among the highlights of the Statistics Carnival 2022 was Forum Perdana Ehwal Islam themed ‘Nadi Negaraku’ which was attended by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah on Oct 20.

In addition, there were various other activities such as Institutes of Higher Education (IPT) statistical debates and exhibition spaces comprising various government and private agencies.
