Tahfiz Student Succumbs in Fatal Collision with Lorry in Pekan

Pekan: A tahfiz student tragically lost his life after the vehicle he was driving collided with a lorry carrying palm oil at KM60 of Jalan Pekan-Rompin near Kampung Merchong. The accident, which occurred late at night around 11 pm, resulted in the death of 22-year-old Muhammad Fakhri Waqiuddin Basri from Indera Mahkota, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin stated that initial investigations revealed the victim was traveling from Pekan towards Rompin when the car he was driving lost control, veered into the opposite lane, and collided with the lorry. The lorry was driven by a 28-year-old man from Rompin heading towards Pekan.

Mohd Zaidi further noted that the student's body was transported to Pekan Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Fortunately, the lorry driver was not injured in the incident. The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) reported that five personnel from the Nenasi Fire and Rescue station were deployed to extricate the victim from the wreckage. Health Ministry personnel later confirmed the student's death at the scene.

It has been understood that Muhammad Fakhri Waqiuddin was participating in the Syahadah Al-Quran programme at the Maahad Tahfiz Negeri Pahang.
