Transport Ministry Mobilises Task Force for East Coast Flood Relief Efforts.

SEREMBAN: The Transport Ministry (MOT) has established a dedicated task force to manage flood relief activities, particularly in the East Coast, in partnership with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA). Minister Anthony Loke announced the initiative, highlighting the mobilisation of resources from agencies like the Road Transport Department and the Marine Department to support the operation. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the task force, under the leadership of the ministry's deputy secretary-general, will collaborate with NADMA to assess and provide necessary assistance. This collaboration aims to ensure the efficient use of ministry resources and alignment with NADMA's efforts to avoid resource wastage. The Cabinet has also deliberated on the relief mission, deciding to deploy government machinery to address the disaster effectively. Loke further mentioned that the floods have severely affected transportation networks, especially in Kelantan, where railway tracks have been submerged. The Gem as-East Coast route is among the affected areas, resulting in numerous service cancellations. Additionally, Sultan Abdul Halim Airport faced closure due to flooding on its runway. The situation will be closely monitored to determine when Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad services can safely resume. In another development, Loke, who also serves as the Seremban Member of Parliament, discussed the Kampung Angkat programme. This initiative is designed to aid residents by improving public infrastructure and essential amenities, particularly those damaged by earlier floods. The projects include constructing retaining walls, enhancing drainage systems to mitigate flood risks, and upgrading access roads and slopes. Loke noted that these projects, which commenced earlier this year, have been completed. Though the RM2.5 million allocation benefits only 25 families, it has a more extensive impact on the Seremban district by safeguarding the Ngoi-Ngoi water catchment area. He emphasized the significance of the dam and water treatment plant in the area, which influenced the decision to implement the programme in this village.
