Tunku Abdul Rahman’s Enduring Legacy Highlighted by Lee Lam Thye

Kuala lumpur: The legacy of Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Malaysia's Father of Independence, continues to serve as a guiding principle for the nation, emphasized unity advocate Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye. In a statement marking the 123rd anniversary of the first Prime Minister's birth, Lee reflected on Tunku Abdul Rahman's foundational values of humility, integrity, tolerance, and service.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Lee described Tunku Abdul Rahman as a great statesman who prioritized kindness and respect in nation-building. Tunku envisioned a unified country, not divided by race or religion, but as one big family. He regarded Malaysia's diversity as its strength, leading with a fatherly heart and prioritizing the people's happiness above all.

Lee, who also serves as the chairman of the Alliance for a Safe Community, recounted an anecdote highlighting Tunku Abdul Rahman's integrity and openness. He shared a story of a young journalist who conducted an interview with Tunku, asking numerous questions. Tunku's response was calm and trusting, allowing the journalist to write freely without restrictions.

Lee noted Tunku Abdul Rahman's belief in transparency and trust in journalists, reflecting on his secure sense of self and clear principles. Tunku is remembered as the leader who peacefully guided Malaysia to independence in 1957, characterized by his courage, wisdom, and unwavering belief in unity.

During uncertain times, Tunku chose dialogue, moderation, and unity over division and narrow interests. His leadership established the groundwork for a sovereign, democratic, and multiracial Malaysia. Beyond independence, Tunku Abdul Rahman was instrumental in nation-building, uniting people of different backgrounds, and championing the idea that Malaysia's diversity is its strength.

Lee concluded that Tunku Abdul Rahman's vision of a harmonious society, governed by the rule of law and mutual respect, remains deeply relevant in contemporary Malaysia.
