Johor bahru: The Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, today instructed the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) and Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) to ensure that road maintenance, street lighting, and public facilities are properly managed. His Royal Highness also stressed that the public should be informed of the estimated timeline for resolving these issues.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tunku Ismail emphasized the need to address the numerous complaints regarding non-functioning street lights and other maintenance problems. He communicated these instructions through a Facebook post, emphasizing transparency with the public about the resolution timelines.
Earlier, Tunku Ismail held an audience with the Menteri Besar of Johor, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi; State Secretary Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman; MBJB Mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad; and MBPG Mayor Datin Paduka Hazlina Jalil. Following this meeting, Onn Hafiz shared on Facebook that he conducted a site visit to inspect affected roads, including the Pasir Gudang Highway (FT17) and the Rinting-Seri Alam Intersection, in response to public complaints.
The inspection revealed that several key locations still had non-functioning street lights, with only some operational, posing potential risks to users, particularly in industrial areas and at main junctions during nighttime. As a result, MBJB and MBPG, along with relevant concessionaires, have been instructed to submit comprehensive reports and take immediate action to replace or repair faulty lights.
Onn Hafiz highlighted the importance of improving lighting in dark and high-risk areas and stressed that regular maintenance should be carried out systematically and on schedule to monitor and prevent recurring issues related to street lights. He assured that the state government would continue to oversee repair works and ensure all lighting infrastructure is maintained optimally for public safety and well-being.
