Kuala terengganu: Ulama and academics have been urged to be voices of calm rather than confusion, as they serve as a bridge for unity within the community. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar emphasized the importance of reinforcing the bonds of harmony long fostered by past ulama and academics.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Na’im highlighted the need to stop internal quarrels, the spread of hatred in the name of religion, and conflicts on social media that divide families and communities. He warned that such actions yield no benefits to religion, the nation, or the ummah. His remarks were made during the launch of the Kongres Ulama dan Ilmuwan Malaysia -Terengganu 1.0 (KUIM) at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA).
Mohd Na’im urged ulama, asatizah, and academics to take a more active role in society through knowledge-based initiatives and to lead in addressing social, economic, technological, and community issues. He stressed the importance of providing solutions based on divine knowledge, communicated clearly to the public.
He further stated that the true role of ulama is to be respected for their wisdom and sincerity in guiding the ummah. Mohd Na’im called for the curbing of all forms of extremism, including slander and hatred, for national harmony and prosperity. He emphasized the need to strengthen unity to build a MADANI ummah grounded in compassion, inclusivity, love, and mutual respect, following the principles of ‘fiqh ta’ayush’.
In closing, Mohd Na’im encouraged ulama, asatizah, and academics to collaborate with the MADANI government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership to ensure the continued vibrancy of Islam in Malaysia.
