Tanjong malim: A Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student was found drowned after swimming with two friends near the Teratak River View bridge at Sungai Bernam, near Tanjong Malim, today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said they received a report regarding the incident involving the victim, Muhammad Afiq Aizat Muhd Shukri, 23, at 6.57 pm.

Sabarodzi explained that the victim's friends reported being swept away by the current approximately 10 metres from their original swimming location. The victim was reportedly dragged into a nearby deep pool, while his two friends managed to save themselves after being washed into shallower waters.

Members of the public brought the victim to the riverbank. Rescuers administered emergency aid at the scene before the victim was confirmed dead by a Ministry of Health medical team. Sabarodzi added that the body has been handed over to the police.
