USIM aims to be world’s best varsity in religion, highly specialised fields

NILAI, Dec 10 — Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) aims to be one of the best universities in the world in religion and highly specialised fields, said the university’s board of directors chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.

Zulkifli, who is also a Senator, is optimistic that the target could be achieved with the cooperation of all parties, including the top management, besides the experience of lecturers with calibre and leadership.

“After being appointed chairman of the USIM board of directors, I looked at how we could develop USIM to produce competent academicians, leaders and professionals based on traditional Islamic knowledge,” he told reporters at a media conference here today.

He also said that he would use the experience gained from being a former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) and Mufti of the Federal Territories to enhance USIM’s excellence at the international level.

Zulkilfi has been appointed as the new chairman of the USIM board of directors for a three-year period from Dec 1 to Nov 30, 2024.

Meanwhile, he said the problem of divorce in the country should be looked at comprehensively and couples be given advice and counseling services by relevant parties, including syariah courts.

“Usually this is related to economic and employment problems, anger issues, incompatibility, lack of religious knowledge and the existence of a third party,” he said.
