UTHM MALAYSIA’S FIRST PUBLIC UNIVERSITY TO HAVE RPTO CERT

BATU PAHAT, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) has become the first public university to have a Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO) certificate after receiving recognition from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) on June 20.

UTHM RPTO manager, Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Zulafif Rahim, said that the RPTO approval certificate was handed over by CAAM through its chief executive officer, Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud, to UTHM’s spin-off company, Avitex Solution (M) Sdn Bhd.

He said that the recognition and receipt of this certificate will open new opportunities for UTHM to offer CAAM-recognised drone competency certifications, not only to university students but also to the broader community, including industries, government agencies, statutory bodies and the general public.

‘Previously, CAAM has also supported UTHM in licensing several academic programmes, such as Aeronautical Engineering (Professional Flight) and Aeronautical Engineering Technology (Aircraft Maintenance).’

‘T
he setting up of this spin-off company as an RPTO demonstrates the university’s commitment to strengthening its focus areas while simultaneously developing professionals in high-skilled Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, in line with the aspirations of the Ministry of Higher Education,’ he said in a statement.

He added that the RPTO will also play a crucial role in providing services, advisory support and drone technology development to industry, offering professional drone training and delivering services to the community.

Earlier, the recognition certificate was handed over by Norazman to UTHM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Ruzairi Abdul Rahim.
