UUM graduates urged to maintain good behaviour, manners

SINTOK, Nov 6 (Bernama) — Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) graduates are urged to behave and maintain good manners so as not to disappoint their parents and community who have placed high hopes in them.

The Sultan of Kedah, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah said that a learned person loses his wisdom if he does not have good manners.

“When we enter into a higher learning institution, we are exposed to knowledge that shapes our character, personality and how we carry ourselves in the community and the working world. Basic skills with a focus on certain areas should be mastered diligently.

“Today, all of you have successfully mastered the basic knowledge in various fields. I am confident that what the students learned during their studies here can make them a better person,” the Ruler said at the 34th UUM Convocation here today.

The event was also graced by the Raja Muda of Kedah, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Sultan Sallehuddin, who is also UUM’s Pro-Chancellor.

The Sultan of Kedah, who is the UUM chancellor, also presented the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (ICT Development Management) to Tan Sri Dr Halim Shafie, who was the secretary-general of the Ministry of Energy, Post and Communications in 2000, and the Honorary Master’s Degree (Operations Management) to former Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) director of aviation development Datuk Che Azmi Murad.

A total of 6,611 graduates who completed their studies last year will receive their scrolls at the five-day convocation ceremony, which began today at the Mu’adzam Shah Hall, UUM here.
