Village Chiefs Urged to Prioritize Duties Over Politics: Tiong

Sibu: Community leaders and village chiefs must carry out their duties responsibly and provide service to all, irrespective of political affiliations, emphasized Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tiong highlighted that the roles of community leaders and village chiefs are not merely positions of authority but entail a significant duty that requires dedication, integrity, and a readiness to assist others, especially in challenging times. He urged those entrusted with such roles to perform their responsibilities to the best of their abilities and warned against neglecting their duties.

Speaking at the appointment ceremony for community leaders and village chiefs for Dudong and Bawang Assan state constituencies, Tiong reminded leaders to remain close to their communities, particularly during disasters or emergencies. He cautioned that any leader failing to fulfill their responsibilities or losing the community's trust could face replacement.

Tiong further advised community leaders to avoid excessive involvement in party politics if it compromises their role as government representatives at the grassroots level. He encouraged them to address issues effectively and consult with the district office or administration to ensure fair decisions for all parties involved.

He reiterated the importance of fairness in service, stating, "As community leaders, we need to be fair and provide service to all, regardless of party. The law is very clear in this matter." Tiong expressed hope that the newly appointed leaders would enhance cooperation and improve service quality for the benefit of their local communities.
