CEBU CITY: The Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) deployed two mobile siphon tanks (MST) to two hinterland villages here to cushion the impact of the dry spell on upland residents, an official said Monday.

Minerva Gerodias, MCWD spokesperson, said the MSTs are stationed in Cambinocot and Bonbon, which can also be shared with neighboring villages.

In Cambinocot, the MST could produce 168 cubic meters of potable water per day among residents of Pulangbato, Binaliw and Sirao.

The tank in Bonbon, on the other, can produce 480 cubic meters of water per day that could serve residents of Buot, Pamutan, Subangdaku and Babag.

Gerodias said all other communities could fetch water from the two MSTs.

‘The Cebu City government will cover the expenses for fuel used to run the machines, while the barangays and the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office have deployed personnel to secure the two MSTs,’ she said.

The water district deployed staff to operate the machines and will also cover the expenses for pur
ifying agents.

“The mountain barangays are not yet served by MCWD, but we cannot simply watch them suffer from the effects of El Niño. We have to help,’ Jose Daluz III, MCWD chair, said.

The water district also extended aid to Barili town when Third District Rep. Pablo John Garcia called for help to address the supply problem after Typhoon Odette hit Cebu in December 2022.
