Kuala lumpur: The Works Ministry (KKR) is consistently prepared for potential disasters during the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) period, focusing on the maintenance of road and bridge infrastructure nationwide. Its minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, stated that the disaster operations room under the Public Works Department (JKR) was recently activated to monitor the situation in real-time across all states.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, preparations are also being undertaken at state and district levels in collaboration with various government agencies. This includes providing additional assets, such as temporary bridges (Bailey bridges), and support equipment for urgent repair work. The minister emphasized the importance of being ready with action plans and 24-hour monitoring teams to address infrastructure damage, such as roads and bridges, during the MTL.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) is also preparing for the MTL by implementing measures to ensure efficient disaster management and victim welfare. A statement released today detailed the provision of logistics and essentials, like food and clothing, at state disaster depots. JKM is also listing and monitoring nationwide temporary relief centers (PPS) to ensure their readiness.
Further steps by JKM include preparedness training and disaster simulations with rescue agencies and local authorities. They are coordinating welfare volunteers, such as the SUKARELA volunteer team and the Skuad Prihatin, to assist affected locations. JKM has also introduced the JKM Disaster Information Application (MyIBJKM) to facilitate public access to information. The application allows disaster victims to register, update personal information, and locate nearby PPS.
At the same time, JKM urges the public to remain vigilant about weather warnings and adhere to instructions from authorities.
