Kuala lumpur: Young national swimmer Tong Yu Jing has set his sights on improving his own national record of 22.48 seconds in the men's 50 metre freestyle, set at last year's Thailand SEA Games. Without setting a specific target time, the SEA Games bronze medallist is determined to further refine his technique to ensure faster finishes in upcoming competitions.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Yu Jing expressed his commitment to improving his timing, aiming to shave off at least 0.1 seconds. He shared his aspirations at the Malaysia Invitational Age Group (MIAG) championships, where he recently competed.
Previously, Yu Jing finished third in the men's 50m freestyle at the MIAG after clocking 23.56 seconds. The gold medal was won by Indonesia's Jason Donovan Yusuf, while Hong Kong's To Siu secured the silver with a time of 23.37 seconds.
Describing his performance at the MIAG championships, Yu Jing admitted he was not entirely satisfied with his swim, but regarded it as a positive start to the new season. He commented on his result, noting that it was not what he had hoped for, but given it was only his third week back in training after the SEA Games, he felt he could not ask for more.
