Zambo marks heritage month with ‘Riquesa na Baul’ contest

The city museum has launched an artifacts collection competition to mark the celebration of National Heritage Month here. Architect Ildefonso Torres Jr., city museum curator, said Thursday that the ‘Riquesa na Baul’ competition was inspired by the ‘America’s Lost Treasures’ television program of the National Geographic Channel. ‘The competition aims to bring out and share our valuable collections, which are highly relevant to the culture, arts, heritage, and historical development of the city,’ Torres said. Submission of entries for the competition is slated from May 11 to 17. The contest registration form, guidelines, rules and regulations, and eligibility can be accessed through an online link, he said. Torres said all entries would be judged based on their historical and cultural value using the criteria of significance to history, culture, the arts, or heritage (35 percent); quality of artifact (15 percent); background information provided (30 percent) and, age of the artifact (20 percent). The first prize winner will receive PHP10,000, second (PHP8,000), third (PHP7,000), and seven consolation prizes of PHP5,000 each. The awarding ceremony is set on May 29, 2023 at the city hall, he said. Torres said the top 10 winning entries will be exhibited at the city museum for a month, and be eventually loaned for the next three years to the same institution.
