Penang: Ten General Operations Force (GOF) personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) were detained last Wednesday to assist investigations into an extortion case at an electronic waste processing factory in Tasik Gelugor, Penang. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (Operations) deputy director Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim confirmed the detentions, stating that all personnel involved were stationed at the GOF 2nd Battalion in Kulim, Kedah.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the investigation is ongoing, and verification is being conducted. Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim emphasized that the police force's management is committed to taking appropriate action without favouritism against any officer or personnel involved in criminal activities. During a press conference, he assured that any misconduct would be addressed thoroughly.
The detained personnel, whose ranks vary from constable to inspector and ages range from their 30s to 40s, were initially remanded for a day. They have since been released on police bail as the investigation proceeds. The extortion case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code, which deals with extortion offenses.
