Kuala lumpur: A total of 118 new tents began installation tonight for the Deepavali Bazaar in Brickfields to replace the tents that collapsed yesterday due to heavy rain and strong winds. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, stated that there was a misunderstanding regarding the issue of providing tents to the traders, but it has been resolved with the replacement of larger and sturdier tents.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zaliha clarified that the number of tents remains unchanged, but the collapsed tents, initially measuring 8x8 feet, have been replaced with 10x10 feet tents. She made these remarks while speaking to reporters after the Official Appointment Ceremony of the Federal Territory Residents' Representative Council (MPPWP) for the 2025-2028 session.
Addressing concerns about the balloting system for the bazaar lots, Dr Zaliha mentioned that it was implemented more transparently. She emphasized the effort to maintain the allocation process similar to previous bazaars, with slight modifications to ensure traders' comfort.
Previously, traders at the bazaar criticized the existing tents for being too small and of poor quality, demanding a larger replacement. The issue also caught the attention of MIC Deputy President Datuk Seri M Saravanan, who highlighted the unsuitability of the tents for a main road known for traffic congestion.
