Kuala lumpur: Twelve visually impaired students from the University of Malaya (UM) will participate in an international mobility programme in Jakarta, Indonesia, under the International and Inclusive Learning for Diverse Excellence (INCLUDE) Programme. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir announced this initiative, highlighting its significance in promoting inclusive education.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the students will undergo the mobility programme at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. This effort is part of the Ministry of Higher Education's strategy to ensure inclusive and fair access to higher education while providing global exposure opportunities to all students, regardless of their backgrounds or challenges.
Zambry also revealed a contribution of RM10,000 from Yayasan Perkasa Siswa to support the programme and assist the participating students. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement regarding tuition fee exemptions for disabled students at public higher education institutions, polytechnics, and community colleges.
The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 3,000 students with disabilities as part of the Malaysia Higher Education Blueprint (2026-2035), aiming to enhance inclusive education across the nation. Zambry expressed his admiration for the students' determination and shared his experience of learning Braille basics during his interaction with them.
