Kuala lumpur: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) reported 1,357 offences during the Chinese New Year 2026 Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP), resulting in RM157,000 in compounds and RM40,361.57 in seizures. The cases emerged from 10,672 inspections conducted across the nation over a nine-day period from February 13 to 21.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Azman Adam, the Enforcement director-general, emphasized the government's dedication to consumer protection and cost of living management during the festive season, which peaked on February 17. The ministry ramped up its efforts under the scheme to maintain price stability and prevent dishonest trading practices.
Inspections were consistently conducted at key locations such as public markets, farmers' markets, and shopping centers, focusing on producers, wholesalers, and retailers. Over 2,400 enforcement officers were deployed nationwide as part of Ops Pantau 2026 to enhance consumer assurance and ensure trader compliance with regulations.
Azman further stated that KPDN partnered with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) to guarantee sufficient supplies of essential goods like fish and vegetables during the festive period. He affirmed that the CNY 2026 SHMMP was successfully implemented, meeting its objectives through rigorous monitoring and favorable public response. The ministry plans to continue supervising supply and pricing to avert excessive price hikes.
