Kuala lumpur: The allocation of RM51 billion to the security sector under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) proves the government's commitment to making security the main pillar of the country's stability and progress, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. He said the large fund would drive various important initiatives including the modernisation of security operations and improving the welfare of frontline personnel.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin noted that the allocation signals the government's recognition of security as a crucial element for national stability and advancement. He expressed appreciation for the government's focus on enhancing the welfare of security personnel, including the provision of housing facilities, with over 82,000 units in different phases of construction and renovation.
He highlighted that the completion of 1,368 new Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) quarters and 3,088 Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) quarters, along with another 8,501 units under construction and 69,141 existing quarters being renovated, marks a significant step in securing the well-being of personnel and their families. Saifuddin emphasized that improving infrastructure and facilities for security personnel is essential for their optimal performance.
He stressed that meeting the basic needs of security forces, such as housing and a conducive environment, is crucial for them to serve effectively. Furthermore, he welcomed the government's initiative to modernize the immigration system through the National Integrated Immigration System and the integration of advanced technology like artificial intelligence (AI), which is crucial in addressing current security challenges.
Saifuddin remarked that these advancements allow national security forces to operate efficiently and strategically, enhancing security control at borders amid geopolitical tensions and regional security issues, particularly in the South China Sea.
