Kuala Lumpur: A witness in the sexual harassment trial of preacher Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew, also known as Ebit Lew, informed the Magistrate's Court that a total of 15 calls were made from the complainant's phone to Lew's number.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Umar Shahbudin, aged 32, who is a former digital forensics analyst from CyberSecurity Malaysia and the 14th witness in the trial, revealed that the detail was deduced from analyzing the call logs on the complainant's phone. The analysis further showed five incoming calls and one missed call originating from Lew's number. "In total, there were 21 call logs involving Lew's number on the complainant's phone," he testified, addressing questions posed by deputy public prosecutor Rasyidah Murni Adzmi.
Muhammad Umar elaborated that the phone was among five pieces of evidence handed over to him on October 27, 2021. This evidence included two mobile phones, a SIM card, a memory card, and a Unifi SIM card. The analysis of the evidence took a week before it was returned to the investigating officer on November 26, 2021.
Earlier proceedings saw Tajul Josalmin Tajul Ariffin, head of the CyberSecurity Malaysia Digital Forensics Department, testify that the evidence was securely sealed in envelopes with CyberSecurity Malaysia's logo. He received these items on November 26, 2021, from investigating officer DSP Noor Asyikin Shamsuri. Tajul noted that the police had sought assistance to extract Instagram account information, call logs, and WhatsApp conversations.
On September 3 of the previous year, PDRM photographers Detective Corporal Shahrul Sanudin, aged 38, and Detective Corporal Husni Haris Ramli, aged 34, provided their testimonies in court. Another PDRM photographer, Detective Corporal Andria Anak Empeny, aged 32, testified later on December 9.
Ebit Lew, aged 39, is currently facing 11 charges of outraging the modesty of a woman in her 40s by transmitting lewd messages and images via WhatsApp between March and June 2021. These charges are filed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which entails a maximum punishment of up to five years imprisonment, a fine, or both.
The trial, under the jurisdiction of Magistrate Nur Asyraf Zolhani, is set to continue tomorrow.
