Lahad datu: Sabah Electricity has uncovered a significant number of illegal electricity activities during a concentrated three-day enforcement operation called 'Op Martabat'. The operation, which took place in and around Lahad Datu, unearthed illegal electricity connections in 100 houses and meter tampering in 70 other premises.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the joint operation, conducted in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police, revealed that these illegal activities result in an estimated revenue loss of approximately RM273,000 per month. Such activities not only pose serious safety risks but also lead to substantial financial losses and interruptions in electricity supply to lawful consumers.
Sabah Electricity expressed gratitude towards the police and all participating entities for their cooperation in addressing a critical factor that contributes to electricity supply challenges in the region. The initiative, 'Op Martabat', is set to continue until August 30, aiming to reduce the system loss rate in Lahad Datu from 17.17 percent to 15 percent.
The public is encouraged to report any suspicious electricity-related activities by contacting the Sabah Electricity hotline at 15444 or using the mySESB mobile application.
