200 Amateur Radio Operators to Celebrate National Day with Global Call Programme

Kuala lumpur: A total of 200 amateur radio operators will be conducting the Call Que (CQ) programme in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day starting today until September 20. Malaysian Amateur Radio Transmitters' Society (MARTS) deputy president Zanirul Akhmal Zanirun announced that 14 special amateur radio stations nationwide will be activated for the programme.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the annual CQ National Day and Malaysia Day programme aims to strengthen the spirit of independence among amateur radio operators and their families, aligning with the National Day theme, 'Malaysia Madani, Rakyat Disantuni'. The programme will facilitate communication not only within the country but also with amateur radio operators around the world.

Zanirul Akhmal emphasized that the event will offer an opportunity to share information about Malaysia with international contacts, including tourist attractions and the nation's cultural diversity. MARTS, under the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU), will manage all special callsign applications in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). Unique call signs such as 9M25M(x) will be used throughout the 2025 National Day CQ, with specific examples like Melaka's call sign, 9M25MM, operated by the Melaka Amateur Radio Communications Club (MERRAC).

Additionally, Zanirul mentioned that the National Day CQ will be complemented by Merdeka Net on August 30 and 31, where local amateur radio stations can exchange National Day greetings and information about radio technologies. In 2024, the programme saw 14 Merdeka CQ stations handling over 12,000 calls from domestic and international stations, including Morse code communication.
