2025 HAWANA Carnival Offers Insight into Journalism for Public

Kuala Lumpur: The final day of the 2025 HAWANA Carnival at Sunway Putra Mall concluded with a lively engagement, as attendees explored opportunities to delve into journalism.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, one of the attendees, Nurimshah Muhammad Yaseen, 20, expressed her enthusiasm for journalism, particularly in becoming a news presenter, which motivated her to participate in the three-day event. She shared her experience of reporting on a simulated incident, the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) bus accident, at the Bernama Radio and Media Prima booths. Additionally, Nurimshah auditioned for an acting role at the RTM booth, describing the experience as meaningful.

Nurimshah, who recently completed a diploma in software, hopes for the continuation of such programmes annually to bridge the public with the world of journalism and media.

Another visitor, Ismail Mohd Azlan, 49, commented on the carnival's role in educating the public about media operations. He noted that unlike typical mall events focusing on performances, this carnival featured mini news and radio studios that piqued public interest in journalism. Ismail, a technician, emphasized the value of such events in facilitating direct communication with journalists about local issues.

Ismail also discovered newspapers under the Selangor government during his visit to the Selangor Media booth. He advocated for the continuation of the carnival to enable direct information exchange between the public and media agencies.

The HAWANA 2025 Carnival, part of this year's National Journalist Day (HAWANA) celebration, spanned three days and culminated yesterday with a ceremony officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL). The event, organised by the Ministry of Communications with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) as the implementing agency, aims to acknowledge media practitioners' contributions to national development.
