Putrajaya: The 2026 National Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya on Aug 31 are set to proceed as planned, stated Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil. This decision comes amidst ongoing considerations regarding the haze situation at the venue.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision was reached following a special meeting with several agencies to address the current environmental conditions. Fahmi, who serves as the chairman of the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day Celebrations main committee, mentioned that should the haze persist as it was observed recently, the event will continue on the scheduled date.

Fahmi emphasized that continuous monitoring of the haze situation will be undertaken, with cloud seeding being considered as a potential measure. The possibility of cloud seeding will depend on the presence of suitable clouds, and NADMA's assessment will guide any decisions. Input from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) will also play a critical role in determining the feasibility of such weather interventions.

The minister highlighted the anticipation of over 80,000 visitors this year, attributing the expected turnout to the ongoing school holidays and the comprehensive transport arrangements by the organizers. Prasarana Malaysia Bhd is facilitating 24-hour MRT services, easing access for attendees. Additional transportation options include buses from MRT stations to the event venue and water taxis, all contributing to the anticipated large attendance.
