Kuala lumpur: The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) has confirmed that it will not provide direct financial allocations to Selangor, the host of the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma). Instead, the ministry will support through the provision and use of facilities under its jurisdiction.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari stated that this decision was made during a previous Cabinet meeting. The 22nd Sukma and 2026 Selangor Para Sukma Implementing Committee is responsible for organizing the events. This approach aligns with the government's efforts to implement cost savings and ensure prudent financial management.
Dr. Taufiq explained that the Federal government would not channel any funds directly, meaning the costs must be borne by the involved state, a decision previously agreed upon. Nevertheless, the ministry offers assistance through facility usage, allowing Selangor to utilize Federal-owned facilities. Several facilities, including certain locations and amenities, are provided free of charge to ease the burden on the host.
Furthermore, Dr. Taufiq mentioned that other assistance discussed at the 2026 Sukma Supreme Special Committee includes the cost of anti-doping tests set by the Anti-Doping Agency of Malaysia (ADAMAS). The government aims to provide savings and reduce the burden on the host by offering different forms of contributions and assistance, ultimately helping with organizing costs.
