Kuala Lumpur: PKR Central Election Committee (JPP) chairperson Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa announced that a total of 237 nominations have been received for various positions within the party's Central Leadership Council (MPP) as of noon today. The nomination process for the election of PKR's top leadership is reportedly proceeding smoothly.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zaliha Mustafa stated that the JPP continues to receive applications from members aspiring to contest for central-level positions, including those in the Central Youth wing (AMK) and Central Wanita wing. The nomination process, which commenced at noon yesterday, is scheduled to conclude at 11:59 p.m. tonight.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed his intention to defend the position of president and has already submitted his nomination. However, significant attention is now directed towards the contest for the deputy president post, with vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar challenging the incumbent Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli for the party's second-highest position.
As per party sources, no additional nominations have been received for the deputy president post as of 3:30 p.m. today, while 11 nominations have been submitted for the vice president position. Currently, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, the political secretary to the Minister of Finance, is the sole candidate for the Youth wing (AMK) head position. Similarly, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Wanita chief Fadhlina Sidek remains the only candidate defending her position.
According to previous announcements, the protest process will commence on May 11-12, followed by the protest appeal on May 13-14, and the withdrawal deadline on May 14. The final list of candidates will be published on May 15, coinciding with the campaign period from May 15-22. Voting is slated for May 23.
