Sandakan: In a significant crackdown on illegal immigration, 238 undocumented migrants have been apprehended in Sandakan. 'Those detained were found to have committed various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963,' stated Sh Sitti Saleha to reporters.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the operation involved 71 immigration officers who identified a range of offences among the undocumented migrants. These included the lack of valid identification documents, overstaying, and misuse of passes. The crackdown is part of a broader effort to enforce immigration laws in the region.
Sh Sitti Saleha further revealed that in the first five months of this year, authorities inspected 13,850 individuals, leading to the detention of 2,730 undocumented migrants. The operations also targeted employers, resulting in 53 charges against those hiring illegal migrants during the same period.
