Barcelona: A total of 24 flotilla ships from the Port of Barcelona, Spain, departed for Gaza yesterday, carrying humanitarian messages and essential aid - a mission involving more than 1,000 international participants from 44 countries, including 15 representatives from Malaysia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Sumud Nusantara Secretariat announced that the Malaysian delegation, led by Cinta Gaza Malaysia (CGM), MAPIM Malaysia, and Cinta Salam Malaysia, together with their NGO partners, joined the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission to call for the opening of humanitarian aid routes and an immediate end to the attacks on Gaza.
MAPIM Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Sani Araby, also the Malaysian Chef de Mission for GSF, highlighted Malaysia's commitment to the humanitarian cause. He noted that the Malaysian delegation received a warm welcome from the international community, with the Jalur Gemilang flying proudly in Barcelona. He emphasized that the flotilla mission demonstrates global action beyond mere discussion and acknowledges Malaysia's respect and courage, with the Prime Minister taking firm action at the international level as the patron of the Sumud Nusantara Movement.
Meanwhile, Nadir Al-Nuri, Sumud Nusantara director-general and GSF Main Committee member, stressed the flotilla's role in the global movement rejecting the siege on Gaza. He called for unity from Barcelona to Kuala Lumpur and beyond to demand equal rights, end the famine, cease the war in Gaza, and open the Rafah humanitarian corridor. Nadir, who also serves as CEO of Cinta Gaza Malaysia, urged Malaysians and the international community to rise in support and apply pressure on the Zionist regime.
The statement further details that the mission's next phase will involve a second group of 15 Malaysian delegates departing from an Italian port on Sept 4, joining other international participants. Additionally, a third Malaysian group is currently in Tunisia preparing to join the effort. The GSF brings together an international coalition from Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East, with all delegations committed to non-violence and using the flotilla as a symbol of global solidarity for the people of Gaza.
