Kota Kinabalu: The 275-kilovolt (kV) Segaliud-Dam electricity transmission line is scheduled to commence operations in mid-April, doubling the daily power transmission capacity to the east coast of Sabah, from 200 megawatts (MW) to 400MW.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sabah Electricity chief executive officer Mohd Yaakob Jaafar stated that the final phase of upgrading the transmission line is being carried out from March 22 to 29. He further mentioned that the project will allow for the transmission of more affordable energy from power stations on Sabah's west coast to its east coast.
Mohd Yaakob emphasized that Sabah Electricity is committed to completing the work ahead of the Aidilfitri celebrations to ensure an uninterrupted supply for consumers. He noted the importance of providing a stable and reliable power supply to meet the increased demand throughout the festive season.
He also highlighted that this initiative would reduce reliance on costly diesel and MFO-based generation sources, which currently impose a significant subsidy burden on the government.
