Kuala lumpur: A total of 2,854 media personnel from 290 agencies, both domestic and international, have registered to cover the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits. The event is scheduled to take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from October 26 to 28, as announced by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi revealed that as of 12.30 pm today, the registration includes 648 Malaysian official media representatives, 327 local media personnel, and 1,277 international media representatives. A total of 34 countries, including Malaysia, have confirmed their media participation in the event. This announcement followed Fahmi's inspection of the preparations at the International Media Centre (IMC) and International Broadcasting Centre (IBC) in conjunction with the summit.
Notable attendees during the inspection included Broadcasting Department director-general Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman, Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, Bernama acting deputy editor-in-chief (News Service) Mohd Shukri Ishak, and Bernama deputy editor-in-chief (Economic News Service) Azlina Aziz. Fahmi mentioned that Japan leads with the highest number of media representatives at 314 personnel, followed by the United States with 181, South Korea with 101, and the Philippines with 68.
In terms of media coverage facilities, Fahmi highlighted that 33 units of 5G-in-a-box have been installed across the KLCC, with six units specifically for media use at the IMC to ensure faster and more stable Internet connectivity. Telekom Malaysia (TM) is providing WiFi with a maximum bandwidth of 10Gb, and WiFi 7 access points can support between 3,000 and 4,000 devices simultaneously. Fahmi expressed confidence in the improved Internet readiness for the summit, anticipating smooth reporting by media personnel.
Additionally, Fahmi announced that Bernama TV will provide live coverage in multiple languages throughout the summit until October 28, while RTM will commence live broadcast of 'Grandstand ASEAN' starting this Friday. The 47th ASEAN Summit, themed Inclusivity and Sustainability, will bring together top leaders from the 10 ASEAN member states and key dialogue partners, including the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and India. This summit is expected to be the largest in ASEAN's history since its inception in 1976.
