Kuching: A total of 3,000 individuals benefited from the mobile One-Stop Social Support Centre (PSSS) initiative last year, said Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri. She emphasized the significant impact of the initiative and highlighted plans for further expansion.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the ministry, through Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN), aims to extend the PSSS initiative to every state this year. Nancy noted the increasing demand for counselling services, particularly in hospitals, where 96 officers and staff sought support within just an hour of the service's availability. The preference for meeting with the initiative's counsellors indicates the necessity of such services in healthcare settings.
Nancy further explained that the ministry is proactively addressing self-harm and mental health struggles by organizing intervention programs. The aim is to prevent these issues from becoming normalized among students and the community. The PSSS initiative provides holistic psychosocial support, including guidance and counselling, to address mental health challenges faced by both adults and school students.
During the event, Nancy also presented donations to 460 school students from the Santubong parliamentary constituency and surrounding areas. The initiative underscores the ministry's commitment to supporting mental well-being and educational needs in the community.
