42 Companies Awarded FiT Projects, To Catalyse RM4.3 Bln In Investments

Kuala lumpur: A total of 42 companies have been successfully awarded projects under the 2026 Feed-in Tariff (FiT) mechanism, with the projects expected to catalyse approximately RM4.3 billion in total investments.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir stated that the awarded projects include 16 biogas projects, 11 biomass projects, and 15 small hydropower projects, amassing a total approved capacity of 331.355 megawatts. He highlighted that these initiatives are projected to generate around RM617 million in demand for locally manufactured gas engines and boilers, while creating approximately 7,738 indirect employment opportunities.

The minister detailed the breakdown of approved capacities, with biogas projects contributing 26.185 megawatts, biomass projects accounting for 135.94 megawatts, and hydropower projects providing 169.23 megawatts. He emphasized that the strategic objectives of these projects are to boost renewable energy, fortify domestic supply chains, lure more investments, and deliver significant economic benefits to the country.

Akmal Nasrullah also revealed that the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia had received 48 applications spanning biogas, biomass, and small hydropower resources, which collectively represent a capacity of 370.480 megawatts. During a press conference, he explained that the selection process considered various factors such as site suitability, offered tariff rates, technical aspects, and the availability of the necessary ecosystem to support all projects.

The minister further noted that the anticipated integration of these projects into the energy system is targeted between 2029 and 2030.
