MAKKAH, The 48th Grand Hajj Symposium organised by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia this year, among other things, discussed the fundamental issues of Islamic jurisprudence related to the Hajj on organising facilities for its people.
Themed ‘Observing The Religious Permissions and Adhering to the Established Regulations in Hajj Ritual’, the symposium held at the Makkah Chamber of Commerce, here, was attended by more than 500 religious ministers, scholars and thinkers from 60 countries from all over the Islamic world.
Also present were the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, group managing director and chief executive officer of Tabung Haji (TH) Syed Hamadah Syed Othman and the Malaysian Hajj Pilgrimage 1445H/2024 head Datuk Seri Syed Saleh Syed Abdul Rahman.
“The main aim of this symposium is to inform the ministers involved in their respective countries about the development and efforts of the Saudi Arabian Ministry involved to ensure
the welfare of the pilgrims not only from Malaysia but also from all over the world.
“This year the discussion revolved more around the issue of fatwas and fiqh proposals, which is why Egyptian Mufti Dr Shawki Allam, President of Religious Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Sheikh Dr Abdulrahman Abdulaziz Al-Sudais were invited,” he told Malaysian media personnel yesterday.
Naim said his team will look at all the proposals and fatwas made in the symposium and will discuss them at the level of the National Hajj Muzakarah more carefully before implementing any effort that is thought best for the Malaysian pilgrims in the future.
The one-day symposium became the main platform for intellectuals and religious people from all over the country to exchange knowledge, as well as foster a deeper understanding, appreciation, and the spiritual, cultural, and social dimensions of the Hajj.
In addition, it was also held to inform about the achievements of the Saudi Arabian government in accommodating
pilgrims with pilot projects and the latest developments in the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.
Among the forum topics discussed are Legal and Jurisprudential Dispensations in Hajj, The Jurisprudence of Dispensations and Its Impact on Facilitating the Hajj Ritual, and Towards a Safe Hajj, Adhering to Guidelines and Regulations.
After attending the symposium, Naim and a delegation of TH’s top management also visited the exhibition held by the Ministry of Media of Saudi Arabia at the Makkah Chamber for Exhibitions and Events Center.
