5.43-Metre Crocodile Captured in Daro After Two-Week Hunt

Daro:Sibu A massive crocodile measuring 5.43 meters in length and weighing over 600 kilograms was captured today in Kampung Sedi, Pulau Bruit, Daro, following a two-week pursuit. The hunt was initiated after reports emerged that the crocodile posed a threat to the safety of residents near the Batang Paloh estuary.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the crocodile was hooked around noon by licensed crocodile catcher Jeferry Siew Seng Kwong, 41, and his team, who managed to secure the reptile by 405 pm. The crocodile had been entering small rivers used by residents for their daily activities, causing safety concerns among the community.

Siew explained that the residents rely on these rivers, and the presence of the crocodile made them feel threatened. His team had previously managed to hook the crocodile, but it escaped when the fishing line broke. The threat is not yet eliminated, as another, potentially larger, crocodile remains at large in the area.

Siew, who is licensed by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation, has captured over 100 crocodiles in his career. In a previous operation on October 7, he and his team captured a 4.15-meter crocodile in Sungai Rajang near the Stabau-Salim area in Sibu.
