5.8-Magnitude Earthquake Recorded in North Sumatra

Meulaboh:North Sumatra: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale was detected in North Sumatra, Indonesia, at 7.37 am today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the earthquake's epicenter was located at coordinates 4.6 degrees north and 96.3 degrees east, at a depth of 30 kilometers. It was approximately 59 kilometers northeast of Meulaboh, Indonesia.

The tremors from the earthquake may be felt in the western states of Peninsular Malaysia. However, MetMalaysia has assured that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
